While riding his bike on the morning of march 31st, Ryan “Surly” Guerra was hit by a car on the east side of Austin TX. He was legally dead when the paramedics arrived on site, but they were able to revive him. The taxi driver who hit him stayed and saved his life: without that driver, there would be no Surly.
Surly is in the ICU right now. He’s undergone several surgeries and his family is with him. The costs are going to be huge, but he’s alive and getting better all the time.
Despite the name, Surly (aka Ryan Guerra) is a very sweet young guy who loves his mama. He’s pretty much adored in both Austin and his hometown of Chicago, where there’s a benefit going on tonight at Resonate.
Donations enter you in a raffle, where the prizes include two hours of tattooing, a private yoga lesson, a wire corset, original art, a handmade custom hoop…
and this handmade couture tutu, donated by the amazing Lynne Bruning.
If you’re in the Chicago area and support bike culture, be there tonight. It looks like a hell of a show.
Nowhere near Chi? You can make a monetary donation or leave Surly a get-well note. Everything helps.

Heck yeah! Every little bit helps. Even with an extremely tight budget, I managed to scrape up 18 bucks – or was it 16. Not to brag, the point being that sometimes people feel as if it is not worth it with small change, but even $3 or $2 helps if enough people do it. It is cumulative and is a damn good thing to put some dollars to.
Nice! Miranda, aka: Rugburn, has an apron for sale on her etsy site Rugburn Aprons with all proceeds being donated to the Surly fund:

Right on Rugburn!
Wow, you and I discovered that at the exact same time! I contacted Rugburn to see if I can post about her aprons :)
