Apparently it is now possible to build homes out of mushrooms, or at least backyard clubhouses.
No really, Time Magazine covered it, so it has to be real, right?
Artist Philip Ross has a test structure, Mycotectural Alpha, on display at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf where visitors not only view the mycelium masonry, they can also drink it as tea.
Now, I know there’s more than a few of you who know where this is going. If you can grow a building and then make tea from it, there’s bound to be only a few more steps before SOME people are tripping on it. People just CAN’T be satisfied with a super strong, fireproof, insulating, green building material, NOOOO. They’re going to have to go and ruin it for the rest of us by making it all illegal now, aren’t they? Frikkin’ Chuckle heads.
But seriously, this is pretty fascinating. I think that it is a promising technology if enough development dollars are put into it. I hope that someday I get to grow my own home. Now that would definitely be an interesting experience.
