This is a quick post on a simple topic -
don’t be afraid to ask.
It looks like we are nearing the middle of the middle of the beginning of the endgame in the Oil Volcano sitch.
This seems like such a high price to pay for ‘raising awareness’ (ugh), but, well, it has. Raised awareness.
Take a look at your inbox or Facebook stream. Talk of breaking dependency on oil is mainstream. Yes, the ugly footage and heated arguments made for great t.v. (I guess – I can’t look).
But for every cynical hipster roasting doomsday stories around the cyber-campfire, there are groups like Sunshine and Shores doing a little something.
I haven’t been following the whole story, I admit it.
What I decided to do instead was to set something humble and pragmatic within my reach and ask for help, rather than the histrionic posturing that was draining my hope.
A week later, the proud class of a local beauty college called and asked me when they could give more hair. Girls who have never voted, never read the paper, were telling me about letters they sent their Congressional representative.
All because of a group of people in Florida who I decided to help by asking a group of people here to help.
People want to help. We do. Like an ant village. We are swarming all over this problem.
So, whatever you’re tempted to debate about or feel hopeless about today, I ask you instead, please pick a small, do-able action. And do it.
If you’ve got the hair.

Stopping the carnage, one metaphorical hair at a time
Nice one Raggedy Annarchy! I am very impressed, by you and by those fine ladies.
It has been proven time and time again that people get overwhelmed by the state of the world and its problems. but if you give people a small but specific thing that they can do it is easier for people to wrap their heads around how they are helping.
It makes sense that these ladies connected with this endeavor, as it is the “by-product” of their business that could be the savior of this disaster.
Props to them for getting up and heeding the call.
