Summertime nostalgia: paper straws are practical again

http://www.bakeitpretty.com/item_926/Red-White-Stripe-Paper-Party-Straws.htm

Okay, so the summer sipping season is almost over.  But as I’ve had a serious craving for mojitos lately (and drinking them without a straw inevitably ends with little chunks of mint wedged between your teeth) I thought I’d pay a little attention to the old-fashioned sipper that’s become available again. Paper straws were once relegated to the same place in our collective minds as poodle skirts and the Edsel. But no more.

They’re biodegradable (check for plastic coating though, which is just… what?) and they’re super duper classic.  They come in lots of colors (I just got some gray striped ones along with red and blue). You can buy them online, or pick them up at specialty party or baking supply stores.

Milkshakes, beware.

    Purty picture.

We were JUST NOW talking about having a root-beer-float social for Sonnyboy’s next weekend visit. There is nothing quite like a fresh smear of Strike Me Pink lipstick on a striped paper straw to make a backyard drink into Cocktail Hour.

    MMmmmmmm mojitos.
