Why “eatpraylove” when you can Eat Real Fest?

Show of hands – who accidentally picked up “Eat Pray Love”, read half a chapter, then put it down, thinking, ‘oh hell, they’ll make a namby-pamby Julia Roberts summer movie out of this POS?”

ME.

Haven’t read it yet? I can sum it up for you in a few phrases.

“I’m self-absorbed, my husband doesn’t make me tingle.
I’m self-absorbed, my cheating boyfriend is jealous of my imaginary voices.
I’m self-absorbed, I’ll go to Italy and overpronounce Italian words while I eat too much (aren’t I adorabibble?)
I’m self-absorbed, I’ll go pray in India because you can’t do that here, and wrestle hungry native teen volunteers for the buffet options (aren’t I adorabibble?)
I’m.”….ah fuggit, it goes nowhere.

Next weekend, people with no clue of the origins of Labor Day will flock like lemmings to the most crowded parts of beach and city to passively comsume cluelessly contrived mass entertainment.

Like “Eat Pray Love”, the movie.

You and I, if you are lucky enough to live in the East Bay Area, have another choice . We can choose to live like poets, like Makers, like neighbors, like gods.

Consciously. Deliciously. THIS weekend.

“Eat Real Festival (EatRealFest.com) is a social venture created to inspire eaters to choose tasty, healthy, good food. Through a vibrant, local festival in Oakland, CA. “

I’m never seeing that movie. But I’d go to this, in a heartbeat.

GREAT post! What an awesome alternative to the latest passively consumed semi-intellectual bauble.

Check out Bitch Magazine’s cut: “Eat, Pray, Spend.” The lead image is pretty spot on.

    Cheers!
