“We don’t claim this is even a good idea… it is our lives.”
While the rest of us donate to charity and try to buy organic, 20 Kansas City families have changed their lives completely. Calling themselves The Urban Farming Guys, this group left their suburban homes, bought houses in the blighted inner city, and are trying to set up sustainable, off-grid homesteads. Their goal: to do the best they can.
The Urban Farming Guys are experimenting with everything from chickens to goats to hydroponic tilapia ponds. They’ve built their own biogas machine. They are Really Doing It, and they hope to share their experiences and knowledge along the way — with their neighbors, and with the world at large.
With $0 in grant money or funding, they’re producing their own web video series, with tutorials on how to do everything it takes to run an urban homestead.
I’ll let this video speak for itself, and let you think on it. Would you ever consider changing your life this drastically, if it meant you could help other people?
